These days, it is easy to see people standing by the sidewalk on busy streets and parks and other such places where people gather. These people stand under a huge umbrella - they have a weighing machine. they will measure your height and weight on the spot - do a BMI calculation and then ask you to come to a specific nutritionist.
The free test on the sidewalk then turns into a costly bill of food supplements, diet and exercises (which necessarily use equipments on sale with the nutritionist)
One of the problems that millions of Indians today are frightened about is CHOLESTROL - it is surprising to know how many people are even aware of Good cholestrol and bad cholestrol. I have patients who walk in with extensive knowledge of LDL and HDL.
Cholestrol lowering drugs are usually STATINS. And there is a huge risk attached to intake of statins.
1. Liver Damage
2. Loss of Memory and other brain impairment (whcih will reverse if you stop taking statins)
3. Diabetes
4. Muscle Damage.
You may reduce cholestrol but may end up with defective brain or liver or even muscle atrophy!!!
Every patient who takes statin increases his risk of getting Diabetes.
So be aware folks - a little bit of fat is better than just a little bit of brain
